imperfect reflection

I look in the mirror and see the face of a girl.

She's been hurt, bruised, scarred.

Her eyes have seen many things, that she shouldn't have.
They give away her pain.
There's a sparkle there though, one to signify that she's truly happy.

Her lips untouched by another.
Her smile is shy, as if she's keeping a secret, as if there's something she wants to say but knows better.

Her oval face and blond hair.
She's not the most beautiful girl to ever walk the face of the earth, and yet there's something unique and awe-striking about her.

Her face, is far from perfection.
and you can almost see the tracks of her tears from all those nights she was reminded of that.

She is an individual, a human beings with feelings, thoughts, ideas and beliefs.
She is me.

time.

time
[tahym]
noun.
duration regarded as belonging to the present life as distinct from the life to come or from eternity; finite duration.

Time is the thing everyone wants more of.
At some points time seems to be slipping through your fingers, at others time seems to be dragging.

We waste so much time with each day that passes.
I don't know how much time I have left on this earth.
How much time do you spend daily on the computer? cell phone? TV?
Now think about how much time you spend with God.

Time is of the essence.

"There is a time for everything,

and a season for every activity under heaven."

Don't sit by idly while time passes you by.
Get up and do something.

You wanna see something change in your school?
Do something about it.

You wanna change your life?
Do something about it.

You wanna change this world?
Do something about it.

Don't waste the time you have!

Get up and do something.

Time can be on your side.

think.

Emotion.
[i-moh-shuhn]
noun.

1. an affective state of consciousness in which joy, sorrow, fear, hate, or the like, is experienced, as distinguished from cognitive and volitional states of consciousness.

2. any strong agitation of the feelings actuated by experiencing love, hate, fear, etc., and usually accompanied by certain physiological changes, as increased heartbeat or respiration, and often overt manifestation, as crying or shaking.

What's the big deal?
Emotions.
Everyone has them. Everyone has experienced an emotion before. Everyone experiences several emotions every day.

What causes emotions?
Are they just sperratic? Or does some sort of action need to be implemented to cause an emotion?

It could go either way, I suppose, but usually emotions are the effect of something that's been done.
Maybe someone gave you a huge compliment or a hug you really needed, or perhaps maybe someone said something that put you down.
Which brings me to the next subject:

Words
[wurds]
noun
speech or talk: to express one's emotion in words.

Do people just talk to talk? Or do they actually think about what comes out of their mouth?
Do people realize the power of words?
Words have the ability to lift someone up or shut them down.

I don't think people understand the importance of words.
They just throw stuff out there. Not realizing the affect it could leave on someone.
You could scar someone for life by saying the wrong thing.
Think about that!

What words do you want people to remember from you?
What emotions do you want to feel?
Words lead to strong emotions.
What kind of emotion are you looking for when you speak to someone?
Do you even think about that when you speak?

Don't be ignorant.
Remember the power of a spoken word.

"Treat others the way you would like to be treated."
Do it. Or don't expect any better back.

New Year, New Fun, New Beginnings

Happy New Year!
Well, it's officially 2010. Can you believe it?
There right before our eyes another year flashed by.
To kick off the new year we had an aaammmaaazzzziiinnnggg weekend.

Thursday (New Year's Eve)
A bunch of family && friends gathered together for a murder mystery pirate party to welcome the new year.

Friday (New Year's Day)
Hello, 2010! We headed to a youth retreat where we heard an awesome message and got to hang out with some of our favorite people ever. (:

Saturday (January 2nd)
Played some really fun group games && took a "leap of faith" at the high ropes course. (still at retreat)
When afternoon rolled around it was time to pack up and head to our next destination:
Dallas, Texas.
We had such a crazy, amazing, fun night filled with delicious food, gobbling, cops and search for Starbucks. (:

Sunday (January 3rd)
Woke up early to go to Gateway for church, had an awesome time rocking out for God.
Lunch at Mcalister's.
Headed back to the hotel to get ready for the big night.
Went and hung out at Hard Rock Cafe, probably one of the coolest places on the entire planet.
Ate at House of Blues.
Waited, waited, waited and waited at House of Blues for the doors to open.
Rushed inside as soon as the doors were open. Got spots less than 10ft from the stage. (:
Had an AWESOME time at the concert, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
(Kate got to stand less than 5ft from Joe, Kevin, Danielle and Frankie)

Monday (January 4th)
Drove home! (:

That's our weekend in a nutshell.
We had a BLAST.

change

change
[cheynj]
noun
To make the form, nature, content, future course, etc., of (something) different from what it is or from what it would be if left alone

The world we live in is constantly changing,
The earth is in constant motion, season's come and go changing the physical appearance of this earth.
People change, for better or worse.
Things are going to change. Things will always change.
"It's when change becomes normal that it's time for normal to change." (Carrie Burleigh)

I'm not the same person I was yesterday and by the grace of God I will not be the same person I am today tomorrow.

Feelings change, ideas change, thoughts change, prejudices change, emotions change, everything changes. That's the way it will always be, that's the way it's always been.

Change is hard to become accustomed sometimes, like when you're best friend moves out of state or a long relationship is cut off.
There are some times though when change is welcomed with a smiling face.
Embrace the change. Be the change.

Our generation doesn't have the best reputation.
We live in a society where drugs, alcohol, and sex are common.
Is this how we want to be remembered?
Do we want the generations to come to look back at us and talk about how messed up and disgusting we were?
I sure don't.
This society isn't going to change itself.
Things need to be done, voices need to be raised, hearts need to be touched, eyes need to be opened.
We need someone to make a stand.
Someone to be the change.

"You must be the change you want to see in the world." (Ghandi)

What do you want to change in your world?

Get up, and do something about it.

I'm on my feet, screaming at the top of my lungs.

My name is Carrie Burleigh and

I am the change.

Are you?

dreamer.

I'm a dreamer.
I waste my days away dreaming about my future.
Dreaming about how God will use me.
Dreaming of true love.
Dreaming of my prince charming.
Dreaming of a day when there will be peace in this world.
Dreaming of a day when computers don't mess up. ever.
Dreaming of a day when true Jonas fans can get the tickets.
Dreaming of days when there's no more bad days, only good ones.
Dreaming of a day when this blog means something to somebody.
Dreaming of a day when the world falls in love with Beth's voice and sees her talent.
Dreaming of a day when there's only selfless love, not selfish.
Dreaming of a time when people use their words to build up instead of tear down.
Dreaming of a new day.
Dreaming of a fresh chance.
Dreaming of the opportunity to shine.
Dreaming of being on your television.
Dreaming of making an impact on this world.
Dreaming, dreaming you'll always find me dreaming.
Because my name is Carrie Burleigh and I'm a dreamer.

Will you dream to?

today is the rest of your life

Don't waste the time you have, this day is the rest of your life. You don't know how much time you truly have left, so take a step of faith and tell someone how you feel.

"Somebody is in the hospital right now, begging God for the opportunity you have. Step into your moment." -T.D. Jakes

Every breath is a gift of life. Don't take that for granted.
Happiness is a choice.
Don't give up, a big shot is just a small shot who kept shooting.

Someone somewhere on this Earth is dying, and you were given an extra minute more than them. Don't waste that. Take life seriously, each moment you have here is longer than someone else had, don't miss your chance to say "I love you."

This is your moment, this is your day, right now is your chance to change.

With all my heart && soul I WILL praise the Lord.
-Carrie (:
